An excellent highly recommended course for those wishing to discover social entrepreneurship and making impactful change through a balanced objective minded and egoless approach. Thoroughly comprehensive covering all angles ranging from strategic transformational to tactical change, supported with case studies and interviews from broad sectors and geographies, models, templates, links, tips and much more. Not least Teresa’s inspirational engaging approach and deep knowledge of the subject drawn from personal hands on experience, academia, research and industry. A huge thanks to her for making such valuable content openly available to all which could transform the lives of others. Plan on spending 2-3 hours per module to get the full value, 1 hour will provide an excellent introductory foundation. Good luck, enjoy.

I have really enjoyed this opportunity to learn with Teresa Chahine, she is an expert and has shared with us her knowledge and experience which, as she says, is a compilation of the work and lives of others. I think it is a beautiful invitation for us to share knowledge and support each other in the different levels of change we need to achieve social justice. I have learned a lot from leaders, community leaders, entrepreneurs, intra-entrepreneurs and extra-entrepreneurs (i did not know these last two denominations) from different parts of the world who have been references in this course; appropriate combination of concepts and practices, what works and the failures when one starts a venture. A path that is being built, better if we do it in collaboration.

I am only midway through the course but each module has been so great in teaching one aspect of social entrepreneuship that I can't wait to explore the next one. Highly recommend for anyone who wants to understand the fundamentals of social entrepreneurship. You can't find a better teacher than Dr. Chahine. Her style of teaching along with carefully chosen case studies and reading resources with every module are invaluable.

This course has been a very valuable and practical experience for me. I have worked for over 10 years in NGOs in Ukraine addressing social and humanitarian challenges. Through this course, I gained a deeper understanding of how, on a global scale, social entrepreneurship can be a response to today’s challenges, and how it is implemented in diverse and creative ways across countries in 2025. This is important because it enables us to exchange experiences, learn, and continuously improve approaches in today’s interconnected world. I want to especially thank Professor Teresa Chahine for emphasizing one key idea that I take with me: the need to constantly engage with people when addressing a social problem. She repeated this many times in different forms, and I realized this is the true foundation. Even when we forget, or when it feels inconvenient or even intimidating engaging with people, listening to stakeholders and beneficiaries, is what allows us to understand problems more deeply. And once the core of the problem is understood, the tools for solving it become much easier to apply, especially given the rich body of practice in social entrepreneurship across different countries and contexts. For me, this course has reinforced the conclusion that when there is a clearly defined social problem to solve, one of the strongest pathways can be social entrepreneurship.

The course is clear in its intent and Teresa Chahine makes sure the learning objectives are reached after each module. (The titles of the modules being a clear guide, too). Some insights have helped me to approach ideas in a more flexible way at work. The module on communication was a brilliant add, I thought. I have already used it to pitch a collaboration between our organisation with a youth movement, including a new revenue model that our organisation has not used yet and which I picked up on in this course. Yale Online went above and beyond with the composition of the videos. The transcripts were such a help but I must say that I spent about 5 to 6 hours per module for the notes, revising the notes and checking out the optional readings before taking on each assignment, which is a must for this course especially when you do not have a background in Business. If your schedule is full, one module a week will be more than enough. I got the handbook as well and feel equipped now to apply what I have learnt to my work in the non-profit sector. Thank you.

I would recommend this course to anyone looking to either start a social venture or simply broaden their horizons and better understand what makes a business socially responsible. The course avoids all of the usual cliches surrounding this and related topics, and rather gives a tangible roadmap and hands-on "how to". Also, it is one of the best produced Coursera courses I've ever taken. Lastly, I also had a pleasure of learning from Teresa in person, and she is truly one of the best lecturers I've ever had.

This cours has enabled our voluntary organization to start and maintain our endeavour. I / we know now that connecting with other projects which we do is essential and that we are only one part of a network towards social change which will grow beyond our organization. A very helpful, personally minded and reassuring course which I recommend to everyone building up a social enterprise.
