The module also explores various DMS applications and the integration of advanced technologies such as IoT, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI), and Distributed Energy Resources (DER) for intelligent distribution network management.

Let us begin this module by understanding the concept of reactive power and its significance in maintaining voltage stability, power quality, and efficient operation of Smart Grid systems. The module discusses the need for reactive power compensation, classification of compensation devices, and the application of reactive power analysis using ETAP simulation tools. It introduces Flexible AC Transmission System (FACTS) devices, including Static VAR Compensators (SVCs), STATCOMs, and Synchronous Condensers, and explains their role in voltage regulation and reactive power support. The module also covers voltage and reactive power control strategies in Smart Grids and demonstrates reactive power compensation in a typical microgrid testbed using ETAP simulation.
