Building Data Lakes on AWS
The fundamental-level course is typically designed for individuals with a basic understanding of data storage and processing concepts but little to no prior experience with building data lakes on AWS specifically. After a brief introduction to Data Lakes, we'll introduce data ingestion, cataloging and preparation, concluding with an overview of querying data with Amazon Athena. The course will continue with an AWS Lake Formation overview, including a hands-on lab where you'll build a data lake. We'll then introduce data processing and analytics leveraing AWS Glue before diving into automated data lake creatiokn using Lake Formation blueprints. Finally, we'll close with Modern Data Architectures on AWS with a lab that covers publishing and consuming data products as a service.

Reviewed Dec 25, 2024None of the Labs in this Course #3 i.e Building Data Lakes on AWS has worked for me. The self paced lab in Module 3 , Module 5 and Module 6, never launched for me. Tried across multiple days of the week and at different times but was unable to launch the AWS Lab environments.

Reviewed Mar 6, 2021This is an excelent introduction to Data Lakes that let me understand the flexibility and power of building a data lake using a serverless approach to achieve two goals: pay for value and seamlessly scale (mainly in the storage area). It would be great to have an update on using Glue Studio and Glue DataBrew.

It could be split into 2 courses: a more beginner level course with less content and concepts in order to reduce some of the complexity and effort in the learning process; and an intermediate level course, as this one is, but with a deeper dive into the specifics of the AWS services presented.

One opportunity of improvements is the peer-graded assignments: the format of the uploades the files should be standarized and rubric should include more options, not only 'Yes' or 'No'.
