Welcome to the People, Technology, and the Future of Mobility course! This course provides a lay-person’s introduction to some of the major technological innovations currently underway in the mobility space and asks learners to apply a variety of social science concepts to understand the likely social impacts of these technologies. The course is appropriate for learners from all backgrounds and does not require prior training in engineering or social science.
The content presented in this course draws on a number of interviews and lectures and was created through a partnership with Siemens. The course also includes an interactive 360 video experience that allows learners to explore the key components of an autonomous vehicle, go on a ride-along in an autonomous car, and learn about new sensing technology we could see in smart cities of today and tomorrow. This course challenges learners to envision mobility of the future that is safer, cleaner, and more equitable. We will examine recent technological advances, as well as the socio-economic and policy implications, of two major evolving mobility-related technology spaces: electrification and automation.

"People, Technology and the Future of Mobility" is an outstanding course that provides a comprehensive and insightful look at the future of transportation. The authors have done an excellent job of exploring the impact of new mobility technologies on society, the economy, and the environment. They offer a thought-provoking analysis of how automated vehicles, ride-sharing, and other innovations are likely to shape the way we move around in the years to come.
One of thecourse strengths is its accessibility. The authors have made a complex topic easy to understand by using clear, concise language and providing real-world examples. They have also taken a balanced approach to the subject matter, weighing the benefits and drawbacks of new mobility technologies and examining their potential impact on different groups of people.
Another impressive aspect of "People, Technology and the Future of Mobility" is the breadth of topics covered. The course covers everything from the impact of autonomous vehicles on urban planning and infrastructure to the potential legal and ethical issues that may arise as a result of increased mobility. This comprehensive approach makes the course an invaluable resource for anyone interested in the future of transportation.
Overall, "People, Technology and the Future of Mobility" is a must-read for anyone who wants to stay informed about the latest developments in mobility technology and their impact on society. The course is well-written, engaging, and informative, and it offers a compelling vision of what the future of transportation may hold. I highly recommend it to anyone looking to deepen their understanding of this important topic.
Could be more oriented towards the downsides of the technologies discussed but still very worthwhile. For example, autonomous vehicles will create jobs but note it is mostly for the well educated class. What about the others it displaces? Will it really serve those with lower oincome? Will it really make traffic better and be more efficient? Is it really better for society and the environment than mass transit? What about the cost to the environment and human lives of extractive mining of batteries? We had a fascinating video of making research batteris, but not more than a token discussion of the true costs. We may have to pay these costs, but to minimize harm we need to understand them.
Thank you for the course! A lot of examples seem to be normal in our lives, but we often forget them or do not consider them! Very clear explanation and good interviewees! Lots of appreciation! Thankyou
