The Information Privacy Essentials course provides students with insights into the role of information privacy within private sector and public sector organizations. Of note, this course’s purpose is not to serve as a preparation course for any certification examination, however students will gain a foundational knowledge of important information privacy concepts and topics. We will introduce students to several privacy-related frameworks. Additionally, we cover important global privacy laws and regulations, US federal government privacy laws, circulars, and memoranda, and notable US state data privacy and data security laws. Additionally, this course provides students with insights into the integration of information privacy and information security ( e.g., NIST privacy-related guidance and ISO privacy-related standards) to safeguard an organization's personally identifiable information. Information Privacy Essentials provides students with insights into the role of information privacy in enterprise risk management. Students will complete the course with an understanding of the role of information privacy in incident response and privacy compliance in privacy program management.
Applied Learning Project
Learners will be tested on their knowledge of concepts and the the applications of key privacy-related concepts and frameworks. The quizzes at the end of each module will determine if the student can describe applicable international and US privacy laws and other privacy-related guidance to private sector and public sector organizations. Each quiz will also assess the learner's ability to apply privacy concepts as they related to compliance, incident response, information security, and risk management programs information security programs.
